Wah Lum Tam Tui Northern Praying Mantis Kung Fu is an internationally renowned style of traditional Chinese Kung Fu brought to the United States by Grandmaster Chan Pui. Sifu Matthew Martin began studying Wah Lum Kung Fu in 1997 at the Wah Lum Temple under the direction of Sifu Mimi Chan, Grandmaster Chan’s daughter. With over 20 years of dedication to Wah Lum, Sifu Matt has extensive experience in Kung Fu, dragon, and lion dancing, including international competition and performance.
Wah Lum Kung Fu of Raleigh is part of a world-wide family of traditional martial artists, with numerous Wah Lum Kung Fu schools throughout the United States, as well as schools in Brazil, Germany, and Switzerland. Every 3 years, all Wah Lum Kung Fu instructors return to the Wah Lum Temple to be tested for recertification by Grandmaster Chan, a process which maintains Wah Lum’s high standard and ensures the traditional integrity of the system.
“Kung Fu” means “hard work,” and Kung Fu training enhances a student’s physical strength, stamina, speed, balance, coordination, and flexibility, while simultaneously focusing on the Wah Lum values of respect, kindness, fellowship, self-control, and patience. Sifu Matthew Martin and Simo Kimberly Liberatore have brought Wah Lum Kung Fu to Raleigh, North Carolina in the hopes that sharing this ancient art form will help people to strengthen both their body and mind, improve their health and wellness, and move through the world with more kindness, courage, honor, and peace.
